"Hector de Laweder, armiger de Scot" received safe-conducts from King Edward III on 20th May 1365 and 14th October 1366 (on the latter date accompanied by seven associates) to travel to England.[1] As no other Lauder family than Alan de Lawedre's are on record as armigers at this period of time it is assumed that Hector must be his brother, given the dates.
Out of interest, almost a century later a Hector de Lawedre sat as a juror on a Retour of Inquest held at Lauder, on Monday 31st October 1440, with a string of other members of the ancient Lauder family. he also appears in other charters.[2] This would indicate a continuance of this Christian name in the Lauder family.
